Bob Fagan

Bob's  unique style of painting breaks down the subject matter to its simplest form.  Painting from light to dark or dark to light.

Bob takes you through each painting, starting from a simple drawing of the subject to its completion, usually in just a few easy steps.  For each step, He does a demo and the student follows.  In some cases, Bob paints a picture from the beginning to its completion, describing the colors being used, how to apply each wash, brush techniques, and most important, how to simplify.

Bob describes his painting style as throwing paint and letting things happen.  He says, "Painting is like having an itch you can't quite reach, but you keep trying to scratch it anyway.  For me, it's not about the finished picture, it's the painting process that I like."

You might remember Bob from the TV program,  "Painting on Location," which first aired on PBS in Michigan in 1994.  It was picked up nationally with the West Michigan Series, then the Lighthouse Series.  In 1996, the Sanibel/Captiva Series was shot.  Each series has 13 programs and is currently being aired on P.B.S. in different locations throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.  Each program is taped on location and is a "how to paint" program with the history of the location and interviews.  Most how-to painting programs are shot inside in a controlled environment.  "Painting on Location" is unique in that it is shot entirely on location.  Go to www.lebenart.com/poltv.htm or www.bumbley.com for more information on the series, or to order videos and printsYou may reach Bob at 239-728-8624.
